“Thank you very much for the time you spent showing me around Sandfield last week. I have visited before and always been profoundly impressed by the consistency of the child centred approach and confidence of the children. This time you explained the principles and philosophy of the setting, and what struck me was not only the rich environment, but also the attention to detail, the relevance of underpinning philosophy and the commitment of yourself and staff.

What's more the two students that I came to see just love being there!” Rob Edge Hill University

Wonderful to have lunch outdoors with your children in such a relaxed environment. The passion/vision you have translates to what we saw- children/staff learning together. I loved Ann’s comment when we came to a log ‘that’s were we usually do phonics’ Inspirational Practice!

The staff are so helpful and informative. All of the setting is almost like a dream, it was an unforgettable experience!

Karen–Lecturer Edge Hill University
The revolutionary experience for students of seeing how children can thrive in an outdoor environment and how it will inspire them in their future practice. The experience should have a lasting impact for future generations of children.

..Observing how confident the children are in investigating and exploring. How staff encourage independence and problem solving but are not overbearing. I have valued the experience and will take away your unique ideas to inspire my own setting. Nothing to Improve- Amazing!

Utterly wonderful setting. Particularly enjoyed the calm, low key presence of the staff. The physical environment is of course, perfect.

Laura – Edge Hill Uni EYTS study visit
It was really good to experience such a variety of learning experiences outdoors, really useful to see risky play. Seeing a setting based around the home with a proper kitchen. Also great to see children’s freedom in their outdoor space and them around the campfire, using campfire rules and making lunch.

April - Edge Hill Uni EYTS study visit
Everything today was useful, creativity stems from children’s interest. The children’s confidence and independence is unbelievable. Loved every minute! The setting is fantastic. I will apply my new found knowledge in my current setting.

It was a wonderful couple of hours and felt like we had stepped into an oasis of calm and relaxation. The spaces you have created, inside and out, both with and for the children have been greatly inspiring and left me with lots to think about and consider for my own practice.

The few days at Sandfield have been very important for my personal and professional growth. It was amazing to see the children outside, climbing trees, or playing in the mud kitchen
